Finland to host record-breaking Disc Golf World Championships this Summer

From July 30 to August 3, Finland will make disc golf history as it hosts the 2025 PDGA World Championships in the cities of Nokia and Tampere. This is the first time the sport’s most prestigious event is held outside North America.

“We’re operating on a production budget of around one million euros – triple that of the European Open. We expect more spectators than ever before,” says Jussi Meresmaa, the event director.

The scale of the event reflects the growing momentum of disc golf in Finland. Ticket sales have already exceeded €285,000, well beyond the original €100,000 goal, and are expected to surpass €385,000 by the time the championship begins. The World Championships will also break new ground in diversity, with a record 47 countries represented, including in total of 288 players.

The event wouldn’t be possible without its dedicated volunteer force. Around 300 volunteers have already signed up, and organisers expect over 400 by the event start.

With Finnish disc golf riding a wave of international success, expectations are high. Eveliina Salonen’s World Championship win in 2024 capped the country’s most successful season to date. Finland has real medal potential in both divisions.

The event is a milestone for the Finnish disc golf community, but also the result of years of steady development and strong ties with the global disc golf scene.
