Jyväskylä secures FIA World Rally Championship event through 2031
The City Board of Jyväskylä has approved a partnership agreement that will enable the Finnish round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) to continue in Jyväskylä from 2027 to 2031.
The decision reinforces the city’s long-term commitment to rallying and supports the development of the Home of Rally concept, an initiative designed to strengthen Jyväskylä and Central Finland’s position as one of the world’s leading rally destinations. The concept aims to make rally culture and the rally phenomenon a visible and active part of the region’s identity throughout the year.
Rallying has been deeply connected to Jyväskylä since 1951, when the event was first organised. In 2026, the event celebrates its 75th anniversary, marking an important milestone in Finnish motorsport history. Over the decades, Rally Finland has grown into one of the most iconic events on the FIA World Rally Championship calendar and one of Finland’s best-known international sporting events.
The legacy of Rally Finland is preserved and showcased at Jyväskylä’s Aalto2 Museum Centre, where a dedicated exhibition takes visitors through the event’s 75-year history. The exhibition highlights the evolution of the rally, its international significance, and its lasting impact on the identity of Jyväskylä and Central Finland.
The significance of the event extends far beyond sport. Rally Finland plays a major role in strengthening the region’s visibility, attracting international visitors, and supporting local businesses. The annual regional economic impact is estimated at approximately €20 million, making it one of the most important recurring sporting events in Central Finland from an economic perspective.
The newly approved agreement provides long-term certainty for organisers, partners, and stakeholders while ensuring that Jyväskylä remains at the heart of international rallying in the years ahead.
