Paavo Nurmi Games once again a success – Aiming for the Diamond League in 2029
The Paavo Nurmi Games, part of the international athletics calendar, were once again a great success, drawing top-level athletes from around the world to Turku, Finland, on June 17, 2025. The event is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series and a key highlight of the broader Paavo Nurmi Festival.
This year, a total of 12,825 spectators filled the stands to witness an exciting evening of athletics, during which five stadium records and two national records were broken. The event also reached a wide audience through the national broadcaster Yle, with over 550,000 viewers tuning in across Finland (population 5.6 million).
Paavo Nurmi Games has launched a collaboration with the Diamond League events in Stockholm and Oslo. All three competitions were held within one week this year, enabling a streamlined Nordic competition tour for elite athletes. The long-term goal for Paavo Nurmi Games is to join the Diamond League by 2029.
