Tampere and Nokia Arena to bid for 2028 Ice Hockey World Cup

The City of Tampere and Nokia Arena have officially announced their joint bid to host games of the 2028 World Cup of Hockey, scheduled for February 2028. The application will be submitted by 3 November 2025, with host cities expected to be announced in early 2026, according to the NHL.

If successful, the event would mark the most internationally visible sporting event ever held in Tampere, with an estimated €4–5 million in tax revenue impact.

The World Cup of Hockey, jointly organised by the NHL, the NHLPA and the IIHF, will be held for the first time in 12 years. The 2028 edition will feature eight national teams, competing in two groups, one in Europe and one in North America. The playoffs are expected to take place in North America.
